Uniformly clipped baby boxwoods, lined up in an old wooden window box, blur the line between inside and out. Placed in the large bay window of the family room, it’s a simple way to add a touch of elegance to the space and does a great job of drawing the eye to the gardens beyond the small panes of glass.

Boxwoods are classic and timeless. The dark, evergreen foliage works beautifully in any room, throughout the year.

Creating this look was simple and easy once all the elements had been gathered.

This is how I did it, and what I used:

8 uniformly trimmed baby boxwoods were purchased from a vendor that had a booth/blanket at the Elephant’s Trunk flea market.

4 disposable aluminum loaf pans were fitted into a long wooden box.

Using good potting mix, I planted two boxwoods per loaf pan and watered them well.

The plantings were then top dressed with a layer of fresh, green moss to cover the dirt and hide the edges of the loaf pans. (My moss of choice is harvested from the lawn, with a serrated pizza server I might add, where grass has never been known to grow.)

Upkeep is just a matter of watering them where they reside inside, or hauling the whole kit and caboodle with Murph outside to the East Patio for a good soaking with the hose. The latter method, combined with the top dressing of moss, will keep them moist for over a week!

And that’s all there is to it. Simple, right?!

Happy decorating and gardening!

Love, Nora

You are amazing! Thank you for bringing boxwood to the FRONT. They are overlooked in decorating, both inside and outside. Your window is beautiful and will be for all seasons.
I buy 2 extra this time of year for Christmas decorating. Like them in silver champagen bowls. Not available in Delaware at Christmas time. I can’t say enough GOOD about them! I use them in 15″ pots around a brick patio.
    Enjoy!

Love this look. Do the aluminium pans need drainage holes?
