We’re putting the finishing touches on our Holiday issue of Nora Murphy Country House Style online magazine. In it, I’ll be giving you a tour of my newly painted and re-styled home, Connecticut Country House (our summer long project), all decked out in holiday style. Here’s the back story…

Last winter was not kind to Connecticut Country House. Ice dams caused extensive damage to the walls and ceilings of our dining room, gallery and kitchen. We needed help. In addition to the interior work, the roof also needed to be repaired and re-shingled. It was the perfect time to add, the often dreamed about skylight, that would allow more glorious sunlight into the kitchen. Our mission to have our home simply repaired, quickly snowballed into Project Refresh.

To be honest, I’ve had the itch to do something like this for a while. Whether it was because Conor was going off to college, or because I’m a designer and crave reswizzling, I just felt that it was time for a change.

A clean slate, really. It had to be light and bright. “Paint it out white!” I sang in my head.  The chalky white of my seashell and coral collections kept drawing my eye, so we chose Benjamin Moore, Cloud Nine for the walls and ceilings, and Benjamin Moore, French Canvas for the trim and doors. Admittedly, the names sealed the deal for me!

And then, when the painting was done, I felt that the last thing I wanted to do, was to clutter up these light, bright spaces again. It took some time to edit, but only our most beloved pieces made the cut.

Now that the dust has settled, I step back and I’m incredibly happy. It looks really good, and it feels really good. It’s as if we’ve created more flexible and functional spaces to live and entertain in.

I can’t wait to show you how I decorate my fresh Connecticut Country House for the holidays!

Love, Nora

I’m sure it’s even prettier than before. I’ve been on the same mission. I’m not sure what exactly brought on my change. The desire for calm? Can’t wait to see the big reveal!

Your country house is beautiful and filled with so much inspiration. In your recent reveal post you indicated you painted the coop in BM French Canvas. Is that the same color used in the new family hub and other areas of the house? If not, can you provide the color used?

    ]Thank you.

Hi Maryann! Yes, the Coop is all Benjamin Moore French Canvas, as well as the Dining Room. The other rooms of the house is BM Cloud Nine for walls, and BM French Canvas all trim and doors.
Hope this helps! Thanks very much Maryann! Love, Nora
