A winter white color palette
The crispness of starched vintage linens, mossed pots of Paperwhites, and old craggy chunks of coral. The creaminess of fuzzy woolen cable-knit sweaters, freshly baked vanilla meringues, and a big bunch of full-blown roses. And, the inherent coziness of tea-tinted antique crocheted lace. These are the best descriptions of what winter white is – not a cool summer white (think tennis shoes and sun-bleached sails) – warmer and softer tints and tones of white that are varied and mix so beautifully together.
There’s something about winter whites that work so seamlessly into an antique home. Winter whites bring in light and airiness to any space, as well as a lot of depth in layering when dressing a bed, a dinner table, or myself.
January’s palette of winter whites is a refreshing (and welcome) color palette cleanser for November and December’s holiday palette of rich, deep colors. And once all the evergreens are toted out to the compost, I’m motivated to clean out, scale back, and organize some more. And that’s when the winter whites take center stage – commanding attention – but in a very subtle way.

Nora – whenever i see a reference to Dove White paint, I think of you. You seemed to know with such certainty that this was the only shade of white I should consider when painting white walls in my home. This is one of the hundreds of lessons I learned and appreciated from you.
